In a bid to help improve the Murray Town Health Centre, the Murray Town Association UK, on Monday 10th December 2018, unveiled and dedicated the Murray Town Community Health Centre to residents. The Association donated over £13,000 for its refurbishment.

Expenditures included: Le1 million for an outstanding electricity bill, tiling of the hospital, painting, water supply, canopies, a waiting area for tuberculosis patients, toilet facilities inside the hospital, and the extension of the laboratory area.
The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Akie Sawyerr, said the work done by Murray Town Association is an example to emulate.
The President of Murray Town Association Winston Ade Fraser, said the aims of the organisation are to provide educational materials for schools to provide economic and social development in the community, and to provide materials and financial assistance to the community’s health centre.
One of the beneficiaries, Emma Conteh, said she is impressed with the donation by the Association for she normally finds it difficult to access the toilet that was outside the hospital. A pregnant Murray Town resident, Lilian Sia Sumana, said she felt good and happy for what the Association has done. She said the Health Centre was in bad shape. She added that she was happy about the canopy over a waiting area that will provide shade and cover from the rains.
Sister Dickens is a midwife at the Health Centre. She said the health centre operates on a 24-hour basis and is a referral hospital. It also has the under-5 children’s department, and a delivery section. Sister Dickson said the laboratory remains a big challenge. Murray Town Association is a UK based organisation that was established in 2009 by a group of Sierra Leoneans who were born in Murray Town, but are now based in the United Kingdom.
